A Quezon City eatery is facing widespread criticism after allegedly firing an employee for showing compassion to stray animals.
Content creator Baldawgs, or Ian Vhal Sardia, was dismissed from his job at a local food store after a video surfaced of him feeding stray dogs and cats with leftover food. Despite working there for five years, the company terminated his employment.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Sardia expressed his gratitude for his time at the store but was deeply saddened by his dismissal. He shared, "I couldn't resist feeding them, so I often did it during my breaks or off-duty hours."
Despite the setback, Sardia remains committed to helping animals. "It pains me to lose my job, but I will continue to feed, care for, and love these animals," he vowed. "My compassion for them will never change."
The circumstances surrounding his termination have sparked outrage among netizens. Sardia revealed that he was pressured to sign a termination document he disagreed with and was even detained in the office. The incident has left him feeling traumatized and questioning if his actions were wrong.
Many have rallied behind Sardia, praising his kindness and offering support for his ongoing efforts to help animals.
Meanwhile, the company released its official statement following the incident that went viral, "while we support our staff's personal causes, we also continuously strive to enforce policies at our branches. We believe it is possible to strike a careful balance between humaneness and our professional obligation to our customers."
