Adamson University staged a late-game surge to defeat Ateneo de Manila University, 69-55, in the UAAP Season 87 men's basketball tournament on Saturday, November 23rd, at the FilOil EcoOil Centre.
The Soaring Falcons, led by the dynamic duo of Royce Mantua and Manu Anabo, outscored the Blue Eagles 13-3 in the fourth quarter to secure a crucial victory. Mantua and Anabo combined for 27 points, while Matt Erolon added 11. Adamson's impressive ball movement, resulting in 20 assists, was a key factor in their success.
With this win, Adamson improved to a 6-8 record, tying UE for the eighth spot. The two teams will now battle it out for the final semifinal berth, where the winner will face defending champion De La Salle University.
The victory also marked a sweet revenge for Adamson, who lost to Ateneo in their first-round encounter.
For Ateneo, Jared Bahay led the way with 14 points, while Ian Espinosa and Chris Koon contributed 10 points each. However, the Blue Eagles struggled to contain Adamson's offensive onslaught and ultimately fell short.
