Mercy Sunot, the lead vocalist of the iconic OPM rock band Aegis, has sadly passed away at the age of 48 after a courageous battle with breast and lung cancer.
The news was confirmed by Aegis on their official Facebook page, where they expressed their deep sorrow and gratitude for Sunot's invaluable contribution to the band. "Mercy's voice wasn't just a part of Aegis—it was a voice that brought comfort, joy, and strength to so many," the band wrote.
Tributes poured in from fans and industry friends, celebrating Sunot's musical legacy and warm personality. Former actress Bunny Paras shared a heartfelt message on social media, remembering Sunot's beautiful voice and kind spirit.
Just days before her passing, Sunot had made an emotional plea to fans for prayers as she underwent critical lung surgery.
Aegis, composed of Sunot and her siblings Juliet and Ken, along with Stella Pabico, Rey Abenoja, Rowena Adriano, and Vilma Goloviogo, achieved widespread fame in the 90s with hit songs like "Halik," "Sayang na Sayang," and "Luha." Their music has continued to resonate with audiences, even inspiring the musical "Rak of Aegis."
