Two Smuggled Bugatti Chirons to be Auctioned by BOC for P300-M each

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) recently made headlines with the announcement of an upcoming auction of two smuggled Bugatti Chiron sports cars. These luxury vehicles, valued at approximately P165 million each, were seized after they were discovered to have entered the country illegally.

The incident came to light when videos and photos of the cars circulated online. Investigations revealed that there were no official records of their importation, prompting the BOC to take action. One of the cars, a blue Bugatti Chiron Super Sport with the plate number NIM 5448, was registered to Thu Thrang Nguyen. The other, a red Bugatti Chiron, was registered to Menguin Zhu.

The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) launched a thorough investigation to locate the vehicles. The red Bugatti was the first to be recovered, voluntarily surrendered by its owner in Muntinlupa City. The blue Bugatti, however, proved more elusive, leading the CIIS to offer a reward for information on its whereabouts.

Weeks later, the blue Bugatti was also recovered and surrendered. Both cars were impounded by the BOC-Port of Manila and will be auctioned off on November 18th. The auction will take place at the BOC's Prefab Building in Manila, with the starting bids set at P312,390,878 for the blue Chiron and P334,238,820 for the red Chiron.

"The Bureau of Customs - Port of Manila (BOC-POM) will conduct a public auction through sealed bidding for two Bugatti Chirons that were seized earlier this year," the announcement said posted through its social media page.

The Bugatti Chiron is a highly sought-after hypercar, renowned for its extraordinary performance and luxurious features. Powered by an 8.0-liter, quad-turbocharged W16 engine, it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under 2.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 261 mph. The car's interior is equally impressive, boasting hand-stitched leather, polished metals, and a minimalist design.

The auction of these smuggled Bugatti Chirons presents a unique opportunity for car enthusiasts and collectors to acquire a piece of automotive history. However, potential bidders should be aware that the vehicles will be sold "as-is-where-is," meaning they will be sold in their current condition, with no warranties or guarantees.
