Senator Sherwin Gatchalian has denied any involvement in an incident where a Cadillac Escalade illegally used the EDSA Busway last Sunday. The vehicle, registered under a company linked to his family, was seen sporting a fake Senate protocol plate.
In a text message to reporters, Gatchalian stated, “I never lent out my official issued license plates to anyone. The official license plate installed on my car is duly registered with the LTO.”
Ahna F. Mejia, Director for Media Affairs and Communications of Gatchalian’s office, further clarified the senator’s non-involvement. She emphasized that Gatchalian was neither in the vehicle nor involved in the incident. She also confirmed that the senator does not own the Cadillac Escalade.
Mejia explained that the vehicle is registered under Orient Pacific Corporation and that Gatchalian has no connection to the company. She also stated that the senator does not own the fake protocol plate.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has initiated an investigation into the incident, identifying the individual who fabricated the fake protocol plate. The SUV’s driver has apologized for the incident and claimed ignorance about the identities of the passengers and the installation of the fake plate.
