TNT is on the brink of repeating as PBA Governors’ Cup champions after dominating Barangay Ginebra, 99-72, in Game 5 of the Finals series. The victory gives TNT a commanding 3-2 lead, putting them just one win away from clinching their 10th overall title.
The Tropang Giga ignited in the second quarter, overwhelming Ginebra with a barrage of three-pointers and suffocating defense. Rondae Hollis-Jefferson continued his impressive playoff run, while RR Pogoy, Calvin Oftana, Kelly Williams, and Jayson Castro provided crucial contributions.
Hollis-Jefferson finished with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Pogoy scored 16 points, including a highlight-reel four-point play. Oftana bounced back from a disappointing Game 4 performance to contribute 15 points and eight rebounds. Williams and Castro also played key roles, combining for 21 points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists.
Ginebra struggled mightily on offense, with Justin Brownlee, their normally reliable import, being held to just eight points on 3-of-13 shooting. Scottie Thompson led the Gin Kings with 13 points, but it wasn't enough to prevent a lopsided defeat.
With the series shifting back to the Smart Araneta Coliseum for Game 6 on Friday, TNT has a golden opportunity to close out the series and secure their second consecutive Governors’ Cup title.
