Manila, Philippines – Cignal HD Spikers proved their championship mettle, outclassing Criss Cross in a thrilling three-set victory to clinch the Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference title at the PhilSports Arena on Sunday night.
Led by the impressive performance of Louie Ramirez and the solid contributions of his teammates, Cignal secured a 25-19, 25-19, 26-24 win, showcasing their dominance and experience on the court.
Coach Dexter Clamor praised his team's collective effort, highlighting the crucial role of the second-string players who stepped up when needed. "I thank my second stringers who stepped up," Clamor said. "It was really a collective effort. We prepared hard for this match."
Cignal's consistency and ability to address past issues were key to their success. "Consistency was key throughout the game. We addressed all the issues we faced in past games, even in training," Clamor added, who previously led the HD Spikers to a sweep of the King Crunchers in the Open Conference finals last May.
Wendell Miguel and Lloyd Josafat also played vital roles for Cignal, contributing 15 and 6 points, respectively. Owa Retamar's exceptional setting skills, with 10 excellent sets, and JP Bugaoan's four-point performance before his injury further solidified Cignal's dominance.
Jude Garcia, the two-time MVP, led Criss Cross with 18 points, but it wasn't enough to overcome Cignal's strong performance.
In the battle for third place, Savouge emerged victorious over DN Steel FEU with a 25-21, 16-25, 25-14, 25-17 win. Shawie Caritativo, despite an ankle injury in the second set, led Savouge's balanced attack with 14 points.
