The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported that five Chinese vessels, including Coast Guard and Navy ships, engaged in aggressive maneuvers against Philippine patrol vessels in the West Philippine Sea on Wednesday morning.
According to Commodore Jay Tarriela, PCG spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, the Chinese vessels targeted Philippine Coast Guard and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) vessels conducting routine maritime patrols near Bajo de Masinloc.
The most serious incident involved the Chinese Coast Guard vessel 3302, which fired a water cannon directly at the BRP Datu Pagbuaya and later intentionally sideswiped the vessel. The Chinese ship also launched a second water cannon attack on the BRP Datu Pagbuaya.
Additionally, other Philippine vessels, including the BRP Teresa Magbanua and BRP Cabra, were subjected to blocking, shadowing, and dangerous maneuvers by Chinese vessels.
Despite these hostile actions, the PCG and BFAR reiterated their commitment to protecting the rights and safety of Filipino fishermen within Philippine maritime jurisdiction.
