A Pasay City Regional Trial Court has ordered the immediate release of actress and businesswoman Neri Miranda. The order was received by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) earlier today.
Miranda was arrested on November 23, 2024, on charges of estafa and violation of the Securities Regulation Code. The charges stemmed from her alleged involvement in a skincare company, Dermacare, where she encouraged individuals to invest significant amounts of money.
Following her arrest, Miranda was detained at the Pasay City Jail. However, on November 29, she was hospitalized for medical evaluation and was expected to be discharged on December 4.
The arraignment for the securities regulation code violation has been rescheduled to January 9, 2025, after Miranda's legal team filed a motion to quash the charges.
Miranda's husband, Chito Miranda, the lead vocalist of the band Parokya ni Edgar, has publicly defended his wife, stating that she was merely an endorser for Dermacare and had no involvement in any fraudulent activities.
