Neri Naig isn't alone. Actress Rufa Mae Quinto also has a warrant of arrest for violating the Securities Regulation Code in connection with a skincare company flagged by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Confirmation and Charges: Quinto's lawyer, Atty. Mary Louise Reyes, confirmed the warrant on December 2nd. The charges stem from Section 8 of the Securities Code (Republic Act 8799), which prohibits selling unregistered securities.
Dermacare, the skincare brand in question, is registered with the SEC. However, allegations surround its incorporators, one of whom is identified as Chanda Atienza, the Chief Operations Officer.
Naig previously distanced herself from the company (2023) but is currently detained while facing charges in two Pasay City courts.
Showbiz insider Ogie Diaz, based on an anonymous source, revealed the unnamed actress as the "Booba" star (Quinto) on November 30th. Talk show host Boy Abunda confirmed the warrant on December 2nd.
Voluntary Surrender and Defense: Despite the warrant, Quinto plans to voluntarily surrender and post bail. Her lawyer emphasizes her innocence, stating she was just a brand ambassador/model and not involved in any large-scale estafa (a non-bailable offense).
Reyes claims Quinto is also a victim, not of scamming clients, but of bounced checks and unfulfilled payments. They have evidence to present in court.
Naig underwent a medical evaluation per court order. She's expected back in detention by Friday.
