Move over Gen Alpha, there's a new generation in town.  Babies born from 2025 to 2039 will officially be known as "Gen Beta," according to Australian social research group McCrindle. This generation is poised to be shaped by a world where the lines between digital and physical realities are increasingly blurred.

Gen Beta will grow up immersed in technology, with artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and augmented reality becoming integral parts of their everyday lives.  Imagine a world of seamless integration between online and offline experiences, where education, work, and social interactions are all intertwined with advanced technology.

However, this doesn't mean Gen Beta will be glued to screens 24/7. McCrindle notes that Gen Z, the parents of many Beta babies, are keenly aware of the potential downsides of excessive screen time.  "Gen Z sees the benefits of technology and screen time, but equally, they see the downsides of it and are pushing back on technology and the age at which their children access and engage with it," they explain.

This suggests that Gen Beta will likely have a more balanced approach to technology, with a focus on mindful usage and digital wellbeing. They will also inherit a world grappling with significant challenges, such as climate change, social inequality, and political polarization. This may foster a generation that is highly adaptable, resilient, and driven to create solutions for a better future.

By 2035, Gen Beta is projected to comprise 16% of the global population, with many members living well into the 22nd century.  In the Philippines, the Philippine Statistics Authority estimates that around 1.45 million babies will be born this year, marking the arrival of the country's first Gen Beta members.

As Gen Alpha, born from 2010 to 2024, begins to enter adolescence, Gen Beta will take center stage as the youngest generation shaping the world's future. It will be fascinating to witness how this tech-savvy, globally connected generation leaves its mark on the world.
