Six young Filipino students have brought home multiple awards from the 6th Copernicus International Natural Science Olympiad, held in Texas, USA from January 5th to 10th. The Philippines secured its place among the top three countries with the most medals, showcasing the exceptional talent and dedication of its young scientific minds.
Dr. Ma. Theresa Bad-ang, mother of one of the participants, proudly shared the news, emphasizing that every member of the Philippine team received an award. This remarkable achievement highlights the students' dedication and the quality of science education in the Philippines.
The Olympiad, which focused on natural sciences, physics, and astronomy, saw over 200 students from 18 countries compete at Rice University in Houston. The rigorous examinations tested the students' knowledge and problem-solving skills in these fields.
Among the Filipino awardees, Richmarth Duke Bad-ang, a 17-year-old student from the University of Immaculate Conception - Davao City, earned a bronze medal in Natural Science (Category 5). Iwen Manaba, also 17, from the School of Saint Anthony in the National Capital Region, secured a silver medal in the same category.
In the younger age groups, 10-year-old John Hermes Mariñas from Maria Loreto Integrated School, Inc. in Oriental Mindoro, clinched a gold medal in Natural Science (Category 2). Rjian Felminia Acevedo, a 16-year-old student from the Philippine Science High School - Zamboanga Peninsula Region Campus (PSHS-ZPRC), also bagged a gold medal in Natural Science (Category 4).
Jaymee Kristen Concha, a 14-year-old from PSHS-ZPRC, earned a bronze medal in Natural Science (Category 4). Marquis Xavier Zamuco, an 18-year-old student from Saint Louis University Laboratory Senior High School in Baguio City, secured a bronze medal in Physics and Astronomy (Category 3).
