Second hacker of Comelec Website nabs by NBI

The alleged second hacker reportedly nabbed by National Bureau of Investigation's (NBI's) Cyber Crime Division on Friday. The suspect was identified as Jonel de Asis, 23 and an IT expert, NBI said he is responsible for the leaking of voter's data from the Commission on Elections website last March.

De Asis was arrested Thursday night at his home in Muntinlupa City by virtue of search warrant. In an interview he confirmed being behind the hacking of the COMELEC website.

The hacker said he want to show the website's weaknesses and warn the COMELEC into action to protect its data.

NBI said De Asis is 23 years old, the same age as the first suspect, Paul Loui Biteng, an information Technology graduate who was arrested in Sampaloc Manila. He confessed of being the mastermind in the hacking of the Comelec website and stealing 340-gigabyte worth of data from the poll body.

Biteng is currently faces charges of illegal access to computer system, data interference, and misuse of device, under Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

The Comelec website was defaced on March 27 by intruders who claimed affiliation with the notorious hacker group Anonymous Philippines.
