Alaska keep hopes alive with Game 5 win over Rain or Shine 86-78

Alaska still keeping there hopes alive as they win Game 5 against Rain or Shine on Sunday, May 15, 2016, 86-78 of PBA Commissioner's Cup finals at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum. Alaska continued to battle with its strong points even on the exit of another key core player.

Surviving a fifth do-or-die game, Calvin Abueva scores 20 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks as the Aces continued to amaze. Alaska has survived earlier do-or-die games in the quarterfinals and in the semifinals against Tropang TNT and Meralco.

Jeff Chan led the Elasto Painters with 17 points while Paul Lee posted 18. The Aces were able to keep the scores low for the first time in these finals. Chan hit all three if his shots in the first and continued to damage in the second, scoring on a drive to the hoop and a nice cut down the baseline for a three-point play.

Rob Dozier came up with 14 points and eight rebounds, RJ Jazul got away with 13 markers, six rebounds and four assists, Dondon Hontiveros chipped in 12 points while Pierre Herderson-Niles had another poor game.

Rain or Shine threatened for the last time at 76-80 on a triple by JR Quinahan before Alaska all but settled the outcome of the game on back-to-back twinners by Abueva. He received a nice drop pass from Jazul on the baseline for an easy layup down low before making a tough double-clutch floater that made it an eight-point game with 1:14 left to play.

The two teams engaged in a very tight play till the end.
