Leni Robredo win Vice presidential race

Camarines Sur Rep. Ma. Leonor "Leni" Robredo is the Philippines newest Vice President, officially announced on Friday. Robredo surpassed her closest rival, Sen. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. with 14, 418,817 votes against Marcos 14,155,344 with the difference of 263,473.

She was declared winner after the closing of the canvassing of 166 certificates of canvass (COCs) at past 7PM, on Friday.

Today was also the 58th birthday of her late husband, Interior secretary Jesse Robredo.

The secretary died in a plane crash in 2012. Sympathy for her husband buoyed the widow to win in the congressional district of Camarines Sur in the 2013 midterm elections and topple the Villafuerte political clan.

Robredo was able to pass the following pieces of legislation: the Extension of the Corporate Life of the Philippine Railways Corp., the Tax incentives Management and Transparency Act and the Ssanguniang Kabataan Reform Act.

Robredo also file her own version of the freedom of information bill(FOI), which remains pending up to now in Congress.

On the other hand, "the clamor by certain groups to proclaim presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte ahead of the winning vice-presidential bet Leni Robredo is not legally feasible. There will be no separate proclamation of the elected President and Vice President in the 2016 elections." atty. Romulo Macalintal, lead counsel of Leni Robrido.

Macalintal reiterated that there cannot be a separate proclamation of president and vice president because it is both illegal and impractical. He further emphasized that the votes of the president and the vice president are in same document, generated by the same electronic machine.
