Siliman University Dumaguete and University of San Carlos Cebu among Asia's top Schools

Manila, Philippines - Eight schools from the Philippines made it to the list of top 350 schools in Asia as announced by education firm Quacquarelli Symonds(QS) on Tuesday, June 14, 2015.

The University of the Philippines(UP), the no. 1 school in the Philippines ranked 70th same as last year. The Ateneo de Manila University(ADMU) placed 99 from 144 in 2015 record. De La Salle University (DLSU) edged out the oldest university in Asia, the University of Sto. Tomas(UST) to claim the third spot. The latter fell in its ranking from rank 143 to 157 this year.

Though UST slipped in rankings, the University brings pride of having 4 QS stars after garnering excellent marks in terms of employability, facilities, social responsibility and inclusiveness.

Four other schools enter to QS rankings, as the new list was expanded from 300 to 350 this year. Ateneo de Davao University, Siliman University Dumaguete and Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro were included in the 251-300 bracket while the University of San Carlos Cebu placed in the bracket of 301-350.

QS University Rankings in Asia was published annually since 2009, features the top universities from 16 countries through out Asia.

For the third year, the National University of Singapore was named as the top university in Asia for having a perfect score of 100.

The criteria used to compile the QS University Rankings in Asia are as follows:

Academic reputation(30%), employer reputation(20%), faculty/student ratio (15%), citations per paper (10%) and papers per faculty (10%), staff with a PhD (5%), proportion of international faculty (2.5%) and proportion of international students (2.5%), proportion of inbound exchange students (2.5%) and proportion of outbound exchange students (2.5%).
