Philippines is willing to share resources in the South China Sea?

The United Nations Arbitral Tribunal decision is fast approaching and the world are watching whom the decision will in favor, but Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr. clarified the administration stance about sharing of resources, he clarified on Saturday his earlier statement that the Philippines is willing to share resources in the South China Sea with China once the case rules in its favor.

In an interview of news agency, Agence France-Presse (AFP), Yasay said the administration will wait for the ruling and "study and dissects its implications."

According to AFP report, Yasay as saying that the Philippines was looking into possibility of exploring the South China Sea with China and how the two countries could utilize and mutually benefit from its resources.

"As the ruling will not address sovereignty and delimitation, it is possible that some time in the future, claimant countries might consider entering into arrangements such as joint exploration and utilization of resources in disputed areas that do not prejudice the parties' claims and delimitation of boundaries in accordance with Unclos (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea)," Yasay said in the rejoinder.

The court ruling was set to release its decision on the Philippine petition against China's nine-dash line on July 12, 2016.
