Voter's registration for Barangay, SK polls starts July 15

The registration of voters for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections will start on July 15.

Comelec Commissioner Luie Guia said the registration will be from July 15 to 31.

More than two million registered voters for the barangay elections and more than 3.1 million registered for the SK elections.

The barangay and SK elections will be held on October 31.

Guia also announced that the filing of opposition to the application fro registrations will be entertained by the poll body from August 1 to 15.

Comelec chief Andres Bautista had suggested the postponement of the Barangay and SK elections, citing "election fatigue" of Filipino voters because of the May 9 national elections.

However the COMMISSION on Elections (Comelec) has earmarked P695 million for the printing and delivery of election forms and ballot boxes for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections later this year.

Suppliers are being invited to bid for three separate contracts to cover the logistical preparations for the village polls to be conducted using the old manual voting and counting method on Oct. 31.
