A US super hornet F/A-18E were almost collide with an Iranian drone, the reports said. The F/A-18E Super Hornet that was assigned to the aircraft carrier Nimitz has made a maneuver to avoid a collision with an Iranian drone that came within 100ft of the aircraft in the central Persian Gulf.
The Super Hornet did a roll over the drone approaching, that might collide the two aircraft if precaution doesn't apply.
Hours before the incident, the unarmed flying drone was spotted 4 nautical miles away from the Nimitz at an altitude of about 7,000 ft, the report said.
CENTCOM officials said that despite of repeated radio calls to stay clear of active fixed-wing flight operations in vicinity of the USS Nimitz, the QOM-1 executed unsafe and unprofessional altitude changes in the close vicinity of an F/A-18E that was in a holding pattern and preparing to land on the aircraft carrier.
