Police arrested 34 moviegoers for not standing up for PH national anthem

Police have arrested 34 moviegoers for neglecting and remain seated during the Philippine national anthem was played in a cinema in Lemery Batangas. It was reported that those arrested were about to watch the romantic movie The Hows of Us, starring Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla.





The "Lupang Hinirang" was played before every screening in cinema but the 34 persons was remained seated while the anthem was being played, which the police said was disrespectful.

According to Republic Act (R.A.) No. 8491 or the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines, when the anthem was played in public, everyone should stand at attention.

For some unknown reason, the police were actually inside the cinema and even managed to take a video of the moviegoers sitting down.

The arrested moviegoers will be charged with violating the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines. If found guilty, any person or judicial entity which violates any of the provision of the law shall, upon conviction, be punished by a fine of not less than 5,000 pesos (US$92.79) and not more than 20,000 pesos(US$371.18), or an imprisonment of not more than one year.
