Tsunami Alert Advisory Issued Following the 7.1 Magnitude Earthquake In Davao

Manila, Philippines - Following to the huge 7.1 magnitude quake that struck Davao Oriental, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) released a public advisory for possible tsunami occurrence.

The public are advised to temporarily stay away from beaches as tsunami information no. 1 from Phivolcs said, "Minor sea level disturbances such as strong currents and rapid rise and fall of seawater could be expected." 

The people was advised to stay alert about the unusual waves and stay away from coasts fronting the Philippine Sea from 12 pm to 2 pm in the following provinces:

Compostela Valley
Davao Del Norte
davao Del Sur
Davao Oriental
Davao City

Sarangani
South Cotabato
Agusan Del Norte
Agusan del Sur
Surigao Del Norte
Surigao Del Sur

People whose houses are located near the shores of said provinces were advised to move farther inland, Phivolcs said.
