Thousands of cyclists rode from Bacolod City to the town of Himamaylan City on Sunday, November 24, in this year's Tour of the Fireflies.

Thousands of cyclists rode from Bacolod City to the town of Himamaylan City on Sunday, November 24, in this year's Tour of the Fireflies.
The 5th edition of the annual cycling event, which focused on bicycles as alternative means for environmentally sustainable transportation attracts around 4K bikers in Negros Occidental. Bikers from all ages in the province joined the tour which start from the Provincial Capitol Lagoon at 6AM going to the Himamaylan City as their end point.

The annual Tour of the Fireflies is a free event open to bicycle-riding public and anyone who cares about the environment and willing to take action in making Negros Occidental a healthier place. The tour passed through several towns of the south from Bacolod, Bago,San Enrique, Pontevedra, Hinigaran, Binalbagan, and Himamaylan City.

Himamaylan Mayor Raymund Tongson lauded the event, "I'm happy with the turnout right now," referring to 4000 participants for this year and the highest number so far, He said.

The 5th Tour of Fireflies is powered by the City Government of Himamaylan, in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office Negros Occidental, the mountain bikers group MTB, and the province of Negros Occidental.
