Thailand Hopes to have bullet trains by 2023

Bullet trains are coming to Thailand after years of delayed and debates about running it in the country.

Though it is still a question if the high-speed rail will fit for the country. But the projects are currently in the works and will employ Chinese HSR technology. Though Thailand declined Chinese loans, the projects are considered part of their Belt Road Initiative.

Thanet Sorat, an adviser to Thailand's Senate Committee on Transportation said "This is going to be a big change for Thailand".

Thailand's CP Group signed a contract with the State Railway of Thailand for the construction of a HSR line linking Bangkok to Nongkhai in the North East, Chiangmai in the North, beach Hua Hin resort in the South, Rayong in the East l. The Bangkok-Rayong route is the key to link three major airports and the ECC straddles  Chonburi, Rayong and Chacheongsao.

"Linking the three airports is a noble objective, " said Ruth Banomyong, director of the Center for Logistics Research at Bangkok's Thammasat University.

Supporters point out that HSR will reduce travel time between Bangkok's two airports and shuttle tourists to Pattaya in less than an hour. They even predict it to minimize traffic on highways, reduce accidents case in a country as it is the number one world's highest road fatality rates.

Given the cost and relatively distances involved still a question if HSR is the right choice since its a dual track rail.

A retired soldier gave his comment about the proposed project as a source of corruption. He said it's very expensive project why not use the money for the improvement of schools , hospitals and others.
