An asteriod as big as the size of the Great Pyramid of Giza may hit the planet earth in the year 2022. After they have forecasted that an asteriod (JF1) is making its way towards planet Earth, Express wrote that NASA revealed the exact date of impact.

This 420ft rock is predicted to come in contact with our beloved planet earth on 6th May 2022 and it is really a worrying announcement. NASA said that if JF1 asteroid will continue its current trajectory, it could hit the earth with a force of 230 kilotonnes - equivalent to 230,000 tonnes of TNT.

The impact would create 15 times larger than the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945. The most worrying is that, scientist said that if the asteriod were to strike a highly-populated are, it could possibly wipe out an entire city and cause million deaths.

If ever the huge rock will hit "the remotest part of the Pacific Ocean," it coild still cause disasters like tsunamis and nuclear winter. But, NASA have put a figure on the probability of the rock cilliding with East is low.

However, they believe that there is a "one in 3,800 odds" that the asteriod will actually hit the earth on the expected date of May 6, 2022.

Despite of the "small but appreciable chance," the space agencies around the world are doing ways to prevent possible risk to our planet.

NASA is keeping an eye on the asteriod through Sentry which is their near Earth monitoring system.

“Sentry is a highly automated collision monitoring system that continually scans the most current asteroid catalogue for possibilities of future impact with Earth over the next 100 years,” the agency quoted.

On the other hand, NASA together with European Space Agency (ESA) are working together for a mission to "deflect" a space rock called the Asteriod Impact Deflection Assessment(AIDA) and will attempt to redirect smaller part of the double asteriod called Didymos.
