Brahmos missile deal for the Philippine army likely to finalise by next year

India and the Philippines are reportedly in advanced negotiations of the first ever land-based missile system battery for the Philippine army.

The Philippine is set to become the first country to buy the BrahMos cruise missile jointly developed by India and Russia, with the aim of concluding a deal in 2020 according to the source familiar with the discussions.

"As far as the Philippines Army is concerned, the consensus on the BrahMos system is a done deal. Now, it’s all about the price negotiations and we hope the deal will be finalised next year,” the source said.

The acquisition of the land-based missile system is under the Horizon Two of the Revised Armed Forces of the Philippines Modernization Program slated from 2018 to 2022 with a total budget of PHP300 billion.
A mock-up of land-based version of BrahMos was displayed at an expo in Manila on December 5. The Philippine army has activated the 1st Land-based Missile System Battery (1LBMS Btry) under the Army Artillery Regiment (AAR) in October.
