Better safe than sorry! The Department of Tourism announced that the supposedly month-long nationwide mall sale starting today March 1 has been postponed until further notice due to coronavirus scare.
Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat said that due to the "alarming rise" in coronavirus infections, "as much as we want to mitigate the economic impact of the COVID-19, the safety of our citizens remains our priority."
She remind malls to follow the precautionary measures set by the Department of Health to prevent the spread of the virus, including checking of temperatures of mall-goers as well as providing more hand sanitizers.
More than 2,900 people has been killed of coronavirus mostly in China since the outbreak began in Wuhan City last December 2019.
