Japan To Provide The Philippines With Anti-Flu Avigan For Free

Japan is set to provide 38 countries including the Philippines with Avigan, a drug used for treating influenza which is seen as a potential cure for COVID-19.

Japan's Minister for Foreign Affairs Toshimitsu Motegi said, Avigan or known as Favipiravir would be dispatched to be used in experiments to treat patients with COVID-19.

Among the 38 nations are 25 European countries, mostly from Eastern Europe, six in Asia including the Philippines and Malaysia, five in the Middle East such as Kuwait, and two from other regions, according to the Foreign Ministry.

A scientific study in China concluded in March suggested the drug is effective in treating patients, especially those with mild symptoms.
