6.5 Magnitude earthquake jolts California and Nevada



The U.S. Geological Survey has recorded 6.5 earthquake in a remote of western Nevada early Friday morning.




The temblor hit at 4:03 a.m. about 130 miles southeast of Reno and 60 miles east of Mono Lake — about halfway between Las Vegas and Reno. The quake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.4 but was later upgraded to 6.5 by the USGS.


No preliminary injuries or damage was reported, but the USGS received reports of people feeling the quake in Reno, Las Vegas, the San Francisco Bay area, Salt Lake City, even as far south as Mexico.
