Barista gets over $93K tips after a customer without face mask shames him for not serving her went viral

A shaming incident in a Starbucks branch in San Diego, California has turned to be a huge blessings to a barista who refused to served a woman who wasn't wearing a face mask.



Amber Lynn Gilles, a yoga instructor was at a Starbucks branch when a male crew declined to serve her. The very upset woman then started to take a photo of the barista and posted it to her Facebook account.

“Meet lenen from Starbucks who refused to serve me cause I’m not wearing a mask,” she said. “Next time I will wait for cops and bring a medical exemption.”



With the post going viral and being shared over 50K shares, it turned out that the whole story was twisted and throw the blame on her. Gilles post quickly drew flak from netizens. They criticized her for shaming a person who simply doing his job - following the company policy. 

Following to the viral post, a certain Matt Cowan set up a GoFundMe page. "Raising money for Lenin for his honorable effort standing his ground when faced with a Karen in the wild,"  the caption read.

Cowan, was initially aimed to raise $1,000 (49,900) for the barista, however, people flooded support surpassed its goal. As of June 29, Gutierrez outstanding fund has reached over $93K (about P4,650,000) since it was initially posted on Tuesday.

Gutierrez later took to Facebook to expressed his thanked for the donations through a Facebook video.



“It’s so shocking to see something get so big that only happened within a few minutes,” he said.

He explained how the incident happened. According to Gutierrez, he was going to show her a paper about the policy of wearing face mask. However, before Gutierrez could explain the company policy, Gilles had already begun cursing him and reiterated that she don't need face mask.

As of this posting, there are over 7K people have donated.  

Gutierrez intends to use the donations he received to his passion on dancing by teaching kids.
