DTI to track down people involved in online barter trade

Online barter trade is life to many people during the coronavirus pandemic. These growing online community was realized and it was brought back to life to help people in need, as many of them had experienced shortage of cash.





Members are making transactions online by posting photos of items they wish to trade and products they want in exchange without the use of money. If a deal is agreed on, both participants will then discuss for meet up in person for the exchange.

However, this kind of arrangement might end up now as the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has warned the public  engaging in the online barter trade -  declaring it as illegal  transaction.

“Bawal po ‘yan dahil labag po yan sa tax law,” Lopez said during Tuesday’s Laging Handa press conference.




According to Lopez, the Philippine National Police together with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will hunt down people who are into online barter trade.

He said, this is only allowed in "limited" places in Mindanao, namely Sulu and Tawi-Tawi, referring to Executive Order 64 signed by President Rodrigo Duterte in 2018.

Meanwhile, he encouraged online sellers to register with the department and asked consumers not to buy online from unregistered sellers.
