New Zealand locks down anew after 102 days COVID free

 New Zealand was quick to implement lock down measures in nursing homes nationwide and the largest city, Auckland after four new cases of COVID-19 were discovered and first domestic transmission recorded after being free from coronavirus for 102 days.


Authorities has intensified its contact tracing of the infected individuals. A three-day stay-at-home order is imposed for Auckland residents with populations of 1.5 million was announced on Tuesday which will be implemented on Wednesday.

Police in face masks were deployed to check travelers and to enforce the new measures.


Just days ago when New Zealand was praised internationally for its effective handling of pandemic, governments had lifted almost all its lockdown restrictions after it was first imposed in March.


Panic buying at supermarkets across New Zealand and huge queues at coronavirus testing stations started to build up as many thought that the virus had been defeated.
