BLACKPINK to release new 'Lovesick Girls' music video after backlash

BLACKPINK's latest music video 'Lovesick Girls' is under fire as Korean Health and Medical Workers' Union (KHMU) have raised objection over the 8-second clip showing Jennie sporting with nurse outfit.

The union composed of medical professional, technical staff and more, claimed the scene has promoted "sexual objectification" and "sexualised" nurses.

In response, the agency said "Lovesick Girls" music video will edited and replaced, according to a report.

"We have decided to delete all scenes with the nurse uniform in BLACKPINK's 'Lovesick Girls' music video and plan to replace the video as soon as possible," YG Entertainment said in a report at Yonhap News.

The agency explained that it doesn't have "any intention" to sexualize the health profession, adding that this could be a chance for the agency to learn from the recent controversy as they never expect this to broke out.

"While nurses are health workers and professionals in the medical field, they had to suffer portrayals that doubt their profession or sexualize them just because of the fact that there are many women in the industry," an umbrella union representing nurses said in a statement Monday.

"This kind of situation only worsens if pop culture keeps repeating distorted images of nurses," it said, asking YG to take responsibility.

Meanwhile, fans slammed the mindset of those criticizing and defend the video saying, "the scene didn’t have anything sexual".

Jennie features in the video as a nurse treating herself as a patient while she raps the lyrics, 'No doctor could help when I'm lovesick'.
