Imelda Schweighart face backlash over 'I hate K-pop' remark

 Former Miss Philippines Earth 2016 turned singer Imelda Schweighart have been heavily critisized by Filipino K-pop fans after publicly announcing her dislike for K-pop music in  a now deleted post on Facebook.

In a series of posts she shared to social media, Schweighart expressed her sentiments against K-pop music and asserted Filipino fans should embrace local music instead.

One of her post she wrote, "Filipinos are losing their identity trying to be like Koreans. Konting pride, please?”

On a separate post she added: “Di hamak na mas magaling namang mag-English mga Pinoy kesa Korean. Kala ko ba Chinese nananakop? I think we’re getting it wrong. Lagi na lang tayong sinasakop.”

The 22-year-old Filipino-German even praised "Western culture".

“Western influence is top notch. And we are under them up to this day,” she wrote. “We need them as Filipinos and i salute to them for being exemplar in everything because ultimately, they are our superiors. 

“There are indifferences but i’d rather see Filipinos find their identity instead of always being watered down,” she said.

A K-pop fan said: "Being a kpop fan it doesn't mean you don't love your own country And we love kpop because they we're our inspiration to work hard,study hard,don't give up-Im proud to be Filipino

And don't me! Let's be honest that for a long time, Pinoy entertainment always tries to be like Hollywood! A sad copy cat that until now is just pathetic!

So what point is she trying to prove exactly? Is there anything wrong with appreciating Korean pop culture? Filipinos have been big consumers of American pop culture but we haven't been called out on this one? Patronizing something is a person's choice.
