Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine provides strong protection against severe COVID-19 in just a single dose, according to reports. This could be the third COVID-19 vaccine to offer in the U.S. if this will be approved very soon.
Trials found it prevented serious illness but was 66% effective overall when moderate cases were included, and about 85% effective against the most serious illness, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The agency also said J&J’s shot is safe.
The company has agreed to provide the US with 100 million doses by the end of June. The UK, EU and Canada have also ordered doses and 500 million doses have also been ordered through the Covax scheme to supply poorer nations.
The vaccine still has a few steps to go before the FDA gives emergency use authorization.
