DITO gets senate final nod with 25-year franchise

 Finally Dito Telecommunity got its 25-year franchise as the Senate approved on the third and final reading on Wednesday. Only Risa Hontiveros and Kiko Pangilinan voted no, warn that the country's third telecommunications player could be used by Beijing to spy on the Philippines.





House Bill No. 7332 was approved by Senators to grant DITO a 25-year franchise with 17 voted 'yes', two voted 'no', and one abstention.

DITO, which was picked as the country's third telco in 2018 under Mindanao Islamic Telephone Co. (Mislatel) granted in 1998 is set to expire on April 24, 2023. If signed into law, DITO will extend its operation for another 25 years. 







DITO is a joint venture made up of companies owned by Davao-based billionaire Dennis Uy and China Telecoms.
