PAL retrenched workers get one month pay for every year of service

Around 1,400 retrenched workers of Philippine Airlines (PAL) have received their separation pay worth PHP2.31 billion, according to the Department of Labor and Employment - National Capital Region (DOLE-NCR) as quoted in a report.

In line with PAL's retrenchment program, the company has provided a separation pay to both voluntary and involuntary workers, all will be employed until March 12, as part of PAL's recovery plan.

On February 2, PAL had announced a company-wide reduction program with 2,300 affected employees as the airline could no longer sustain the costs associated with its limited operations due to the pandemic.

The payment of separation pay took place from February 17 to 22, was witnessed by DOLE. PAL provided separation pay equivalent to one-month pay for every year of service, including outplacement assistance to help ease the transition.

The company has recorded loss of P29.03 billion from January to September 2020, more than three times larger than its losses the year prior at P7.86 billion.
