Filipina forced to work as a slave, stopped from going out with friends by Sydney couple

 An unidentified Filipina got a sigh of relief on Thursday after a hearing for her case against an Australian couple progress.

Back in 2013, Sheila and Joshua McAleer of Sydney, Australia lured a woman from the Philippines to work as slave in the family home and business. 





The couple have pleaded guilty to a series of charges relating to their treatment to the woman who came to Australia to seek for a greener pastures. But everything has turned out into a nightmare in three years, as she was forced to work as cleaner and family business - sadly most of which were unpaid.





Her visa was also confiscated by the couple after it expired and told her she couldn't return to  the Philippines unless she has paid her travel expenses in full. The woman was also stopped for making friends and told to use a fake name in public.




"I did not know when I came that I would have to work 24 hours a day. I did not get paid for my work,” the victim said.





The poor Filipina fortunately escape into the hands of her employer in 2016 and stayed with a friend. Court said that Mr. McAleer sought the help of a private detective to find her, who he said it was his fiancée and that she had gone missing. 




Now the couple have offered to pay the victim  $70,000 as compensation. The couple will return to sourt on June 11 for court's decision, with a possible maximum sentence of 10 years.
