PH receives first batch of Pfizer Covid vaccines

The Philippines received 193,050 Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines on Monday night, May 10, 2021. The donated vaccines from the Covax Facility has arrived via DHL Express Flight LD457 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2.









The delivery is the first tranche of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID vaccines in the country following the arrival of 2,030,400 additional doses of AstraZeneca on May 8. 








With the additional delivery as of May 10,  the Philippines was able to receive a total of 7,764,050 doses of COVID vaccines that will help boost the country's vaccination effort.








According to Gavi website, the Philippines has been allocated a total of 4,584,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine and 2,472,210 doses of the Pfizer vaccine, or a total of 7,056,210 doses from COVAX. As of May 10, the Philippines has received a total of 2,749,050 doses from COVAX, including more than 2.5 million doses of AstraZeneca.








U.S. Embassy Economic Counselor Chip Gamble joined Secretary of Science and Technology Fortunato de la Peña, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, and National Action Plan Against COVID-19 Deputy Chief Implementer Vince Dizon from the Philippine government, and other stakeholders at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport to welcome the first arrival of Pfizer-BioNTech on Monday night.








With the Food and Drug Administration grant, Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines are authorized for emergency use in the Philippines. The Philippines is among the 92 countries in the middle income economies that are eligible to receive vaccine donations through the COVAX advance market commitment (AMC) mechanism.






This is the fourth shipment of the vaccines that made available from the COVAX facility.






The American made vaccine Pfizer-BioNTech COVID vaccine was the first to receive an emergency use authorization from the World Health Organization with 95% protection against COVID-19, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
