SJ Belangel's 3-pointer at a buzzer beater lifted the Gilas Pilipinas to a 81-78 victory over the South Korea at the 2021 Fiba Asia Cup on Wednesday, June 16 at Angeles University Gym in Clark, Pampanga.
With a few seconds left in the fourth quarter, Belangel connected on a triple over Lee Seoung-hyun from Dwight Ramos inbound, remained unbeaten in Group A at 4-0.
Belangel finished with 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field, five rebounds, and two assists, sending Gilas to the Asia Cup proper in August in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The Philippines has never bowed down despite the slow start, instead, they fought back into the game with Dwight Ramos who led the rally in the third quarter where he finished with 16 points and 5 rebounds.
"It was a great game of basketball," said Baldwin.
"We were shocked at the beginning of the game of the physicality of Korea," he added.
Ange Kouame contribute 11 points, six rebounds and a block. Kai Sotto making his debut with 11 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a steals, while Carl Tamayo add on 10 markers.
Meanwhile, South Korea's Ra (24), Lee HJ (15), Lee SH (9), Jeon (9), Kang (7), Moon (6), Yang (4), Kim (2), Lee DS (2), Byen (0).
