Former senator Bongbong Marcos has officially announced his intent to run for president in the upcoming May 2022 elections.
Bongbong has yet to announce his running-mate for the vice-president.
"I am today announcing my intention to run for the presidency of the Philippines in the upcoming May 2022 elections," said Bongbong during a Facebooko live.
He said he wanted to bring back "unifying leadership" in the country. The announcement came hours after he confirmed his transfer to the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, which endorsed him to run for president.
Bongbong ran for vice president in 2016 but lost to Vice President Leni Robredo.
He first served as vice-governor to governor, and previously became a congressman representing Ilocos Norte.
