Ramon Ang willing to sell Petron back to gov't:"Kahit hulugan, walang arte-arte!"

Ramon Ang, Petron President and Chief Executive Officer on Monday announced his willingness to sell the oil company back to the national government.

In a briefing of the House on Ways and Means Committee, Ang said he could sell the corporation to the government anytime and he would even allow the government to pay in staggered payment of up to five years.

"Yung sina-suggest na bilhin ng gobyerno 'yung Petron, privatization, anytime po pwede ko pa ipautang sa Philippine government, bilhin ninyo ito ng over five years to pay, ano ho 'yan, I swear kung gusto ng gobyerno bilhin handa niyo na, sabihin niyo na, bebenta ko kaagad sa inyo. Pagawaan niyo na ng valuation immediately, walang arte-arte," Ang told lawmakers.

A lawmaker from the progressive Makabayan bloc is proposing the national government to buy back Petron Corp. to help control the continuous hike in oil prices.

"Kung sa tingin ninyo jackpot 'yung negosyong 'yan, let the governement buy it, market valuation 'yan di ko kailangan tubuan ang gobyerno," Ang added.

According to Ang, the government owned Petron Corp. before it was privatized suffered P18 billion losses in 2020.

The committee is proposing to completely suspend excise taxes on diesel from PHP6/liter and kerosene from PHP5/liter from Dec. 1, 2021 to June 1, 2021, while reducing gasoline by as much as PHP3/liter.

However, the Department of Finance (DOF) warned the proposal will result in foregone revenues of PHP37.5 billion.
