BARANGAY BOJO IN CEBU WINS GLOBAL RECOGNITION AS WORLD'S BEST TOURISM VILLAGE - UN

 A barangay in Cebu has attracted global attention after it was recognized as one of the world's "Best Tourism Villages" by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).




Barangay Bojo in the town of Aloguinsan town, was among the 44 world's Best Tourism Villages of 2021, the Tourism Department said. The place is also a home of the world-renowned Bojo River that offers a 1.4-kilometer scenic natural sights such as mangroves, underwater natural resources, different species of birds and other wildlife.




Bojo Aloguinsan Ecotourism Association (BAETAS), the organization in the community that managed the area provides an "eco-cultural river tour with mangroves ecology, bird and wildlife lectures," DOT said.



According to tourism secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, barangay Bojo's win was "a testament to the Philippines' commitment to sustainable tourism development from the national level down to the grassroots."




"The wealth of our natural resources and unmatched hospitality remains out key strength as we strive for the reopening of the industry to international travelers anchored on the principle of safe and sustainable tourism," she added.



The United Nations recognized 44 villages from 32 countries that stood out for their natural and cultural wonders.
