Typhoon Odette with international name 'Rai' has intensified further early Thursday morning, December 16.
Odette is currently packed with 140 knots or 259km/h maximum sustained winds and gusts reaching 170 knots (314 kph), according to the US Navy and Iar Force's joint Typhoon Warning Center in Hawaii.
The US JTWC classifies typhoons with wind speeds of at least 130 knots, which are equivalent to a Category 4 storm in the Saffir-Simpson scale—as super typhoons. Its readings are based on 1-minute average measurements of sustained winds.
The typhoon will continue to strengthen before it makes its first landfall either in Dinigat Island, Siargao-Bucas Grande Island, or the northern part of Siargao del Sur by Thursday noontime.

Signal No. 4 has been hoisted over eastern Bohol (Talibon, Trinidad, San Miguel, Dagohoy, Pilar, Sierra Bullones, Jagna, Garcia Hernandez, Duero, Guindulman, Anda, Candijay, Alicia, Mabini, Ubay, Pres. Carlos P. Garcia, Bien Unido) by PAGASA.
"Very destructive typhoon-force winds prevailing or expected within 12 hours" are to be expected in the area, PAGASA said.
The rest of the province remained under Signal No. 3.
