Filipino boxer Mark Magsayo is the new WBC world featherweight champion after defeating Gary Russell Jr. on Sunday at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Two of the judges scored 115-113 in favor to the Tacloban born boxer, while the other judge saw it for Russell.
Magsayo has improved his record to 24-0 with 16 knockouts while Russell suffered his second defeat (31-2, 18 knockouts) in his career.
Russell has faced undisclosed right shoulder injury in round four but was able to fight back and finish the round. In round 6, Russell did not throw so much on his right hand which gives Magsayo a chance to deliver and land his shots in a close distance.
