SC: EXAMINEES WHO SMUGGLED PHONES, ACCESS TO SOCIAL MEDIA DISQUALIFIED FOR 2020/21 BAR EXAM

The Supreme Court have announced that there are a number of takers of the 2020-21 Bar Examinations were disqualified for several violations on the policies set by the Office of the Bar chairperson and their Honor Code.

In an advisory released by the Supreme Court on Sunday, Associate Justice Marivic Leonen said that his office received reports of examinees who violated the rules during the examination period which include the following:

  • Entering local testing centers without disclosing that they previously tested positive for COVID-19.
  • Smuggling mobile phones inside the examination rooms.
  • Accessing social media during their lunch break inside the premises.

"For their infractions, I am exercising my prerogative as Bar Chairperson to disqualify these examinees from the 2020/21 Bar Examinations," the associate justice wrote.

"I take my constant message of honor to the examinees seriously. I owe it not only to those who risked their lives just to make the 2020/21 Bar Examinations happen despite all odds, but most especially to those examinees who have taken the Bar Examinations were it not for their positive COVID-19 test results," Leonen added.

He also told to the examinees who violated the Honor Code to reflect on their actions.

"For now, reflect on what you have done, but know that you can still change narrative. You will not end up as the examinee who lost your honor forever in your desperation to pass an examination. Learn from your mistake, and earn your honor back," he said.

But Leonen said that the disqualification only applies for the recent examinations.

There are a total of 11,378 examinees of the 2020-2021 Bar examination showed up to took the exams in 31 local test centers at 21 local government on Friday, February 4.
