SIM CARD REGISTRATION ACT: HERE'S HOW TO REGISTER ON DECEMBER 27

 Filipinos who uses cellular sim card has been given a chance to register their mobile number starting December 27.



The National Telecommunication Commission (NTC) released the implementing rules (IRR) of the SIM Card Registration Act.




Telcos will also start selling SIMs in deactivated mode which users will have to register and have activated. All new SIMs must be registered immediately to fully enjoy services, while existing SIMs must be registered within 180 days.



Both telcos and subscribers will penalized if failed to folloe the law.



Telso subscribers who refuse or fail to register will have their SIMs deactivated, according to the implementing rules.

Telco operators who refuse to register a subscriber's SIM without a valid reason, meanwhile will face a fine of up to P1-million.



All SIMs must be registered, including eSIMs, and even SIMS intended only for data such as those used for wireless broadband modems, machine-to-machine communications and loT (internet of things) devices.



How to register  your SIM card?



1. Register through a secure online platform provided by a telecommunications company (telco) within 180 days from the law's effectivity. This may be extended for up to 120 days.



2. Subscribers will need to present a photo along with any valid government-issued ID to register their SIM.



Where to register?


Major telco firms will provide information about their registration portals through their official channels.



Note: Subscribers who give fake informations in their registration can be imprisoned for up to 2 years with a fine of up to P300,000. The same fine of up to P300,000 or imprisonment of up to 6 years may also be imposed on people who sell or transfer a registered SIM "without complying with the required registration." 



The penalty also applies to sellers of stolen SIMs.
