FIVE OFWs IN UAE ARRESTED OVER INDECENT TIKTOK VIDEO

 Five Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were arrested after a complaint was lodged over an indecent video posted on popular video platform TikTok.


According to reports, the Filipinos had uploaded a video "just for fun" with friends had no idea that it will led them in jail. The case is now under the Sharjah Public Prosecution.

 




The Philippine consulate in Dubai has reminded all Filipinos to respect the UAE's customs and be mindful of what they post on social media.




"UAE is strictly implementing its cyber law and is also very sensitive to actions against their customs and morality. Their culture is different, so we have to be very, very respectful," DMW Secretary Toots Ople told media.




Added that the department is closely monitoring the case.




Philippine Consul General in Dubai and Northern Emirates Renato Dueñas Jr. said the consulate will provide necessary legal assistance to the five OFWs.



According to UAE's anti-cyber crime law which prohibits the "posting any content which is harmful to women or children, such as human trafficking, pornography, prostitution and acts against public morality," will be punished with "imprisonment ranging from one to five years and penalties from Dh250,000 to Dh1 million."
