MICHELE GUMABAO SAYS BEGGAR IN SINGAPORE SHOWED QR CODE FOR ALMS

Beggars of the 21st century are now packed with options for alms. Filipina beauty queen Michele Gumabao was in her holiday week trip in Singapore when she encountered a local who approached her for money.

"Someone begged for money here in SG, I said sorry co cash. He showed me a barcode," she wrote on Twitter.

Digital beggars really exist in this techie world. This will give people options to offer them via QR code or a real monetary.

"Same here in Shanghai, mga beggars sa downtown nakasabit sa leeg nila QR code to scan , dalawa pa yun, WeChat and Alipay," a follower replied.

"I think that case is very rare here in SG,  otherwise they are selling tissues & stuff na minsan mapapabili kana lan din kahit dimo kailangan out of humanity," another one said.

"Singapore is practically a cashless society that’s why they have codes. But there are hardly any beggars, they have pride [so they give you tissue in exchange] of what you will give. Tissue costs S$1 but you can give more than that. Even buskers have their own code," another comment read.
