K-pop Star Kyuhyun Sustains Minor Injury in Knife Attack

Kyuhyun, the main vocalist of the South Korean boy band Super Junior, suffered a minor finger injury after he intervened in a knife attack. The incident occurred in the dressing room of a musical theater in Seoul, South Korea.

A 30-year-old woman was apprehended after she broke into the backstage dressing room for musical actors. Kyuhyun managed to restrain her before she could cause further harm.

The incident happened on November 19, 2023, at around 6:00 p.m. following a performance of the musical "Ben-Hur," according to a statement from Kyuhyun's label, Antenna.

"In the course of restraining the intruder, he had a minor abrasion on his finger," Antenna stated, adding that he received immediate medical attention at the scene.

The unidentified assailant was charged with "special intimidation" and was arrested on the same day. Authorities are investigating her motives. According to Korean media, she had no prior connection to Kyuhyun or the other actors involved and had not stalked them in the past.

Kyuhyun's label expressed gratitude to his fans for their concern and pledged their support for the artist.

"He is currently in good health and fully capable of continuing his regular activities," Antenna wrote. "We express our gratitude to all the devoted fans for their genuine concern. Rest assured, we remain committed to supporting the artist. Thank you for your understanding and continued support."

Kyuhyun, whose real name is Cho Kyu-hyun, joined Super Junior as the main vocalist in 2006. He is also a member of the group's sub-units Super Junior-M and Super Junior-K.R.Y., as well as SM Entertainment's project unit SM The Ballad.

Kyuhyun launched his solo career with the album "At Gwanghwamun" in November 2014.

In addition to his idol activities, he has established himself as a successful musical theater actor in South Korea.

In July 2023, Kyuhyun, along with bandmates Donghae and Eunhyuk, left SM Entertainment after their contracts expired. Despite this, he will continue his activities as Super Junior with his former agency.
