Miss Universe Nicaragua Director Denied Re-entry to Home Country - Reports

Karen Celebertti, the national director of Miss Universe Nicaragua, has been barred from returning to her home country following the victory of Nicaraguan beauty queen Sheynnis Palacios at the Miss Universe pageant.

Upon arriving at the Augusto C. Sandino International Airport in Managua after their return from Mexico, Celebertti and her daughter were detained by Nicaraguan immigration authorities and subsequently sent back to Mexico.

The Directorate of Migration and Foreigners Affairs cited activities related to the Miss Universe pageant as the reason for denying their entry.

Reports suggest that Sheynnis' entourage was suspected of harboring anti-government sentiments, prompting the authorities' decision. This move effectively cancels any homecoming celebrations for Sheynnis in Nicaragua.

Sheynnis, who was groomed by the Miss Universe Nicaragua Organization, will be residing in New York City for the duration of her one-year reign as Miss Universe. The fate of Nicaragua's first Miss Universe remains uncertain due to her association with Celebertti.

Celebertti, a former Miss Nicaragua finalist herself, has served as the national director of Miss Universe Nicaragua since 2001.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that Nicaraguan authorities also hindered two visual artists from creating a mural honoring the newly crowned Miss Universe.

Sheynnis has yet to publicly address the situation.
